Alphabakes March 2013

It's March already and some of you may be baking for Mothers' Day, a Comic Relief bake sale or indeed Easter, which falls at the end of this month. Hopefully there will be plenty of opportunities for you all to bake something where the name of the bake (or dessert, or savoury dish - we're not fussy) or the main ingredient begins with this month's letter, which is.....

I

I also hope that we get some slightly more inspired ideas than simply 'icing' on top of a cake.. but I know you won't let me down!

Just to clarify, we would accept icing if it was integral to the bake like an iced bun (there's an idea for you!) but not if it's a just random cake with icing on top, as we feel that rather defeats the purpose of the challenge. If you're stuck, why not think geographically.. Irish, Italian, Indian?

We have another prize this month (aren't we good to you?), provided by the lovely people at Dr. Oetker, which has a great range of baking products and is adding new items all the time. There will be a selection of goodies on offer to a lucky winner. As always, the winner will be chosen at random - sorry, only those with a UK address will be eligible.

A quick reminder of the rules....

1. Post your recipe on your blog and link it to The More than Occasional Baker and Caroline Makes, stating the relevant month's host. If you do not have a blog, email us a picture and a brief description of your entry which we will include in the round-up at the end of the month.

2. You can use your own recipe or someone else's recipe. The recipe can be sweet, savoury or a mixture! Anything goes as long as the random letter is predominantly featured in the recipe as one of the main ingredients or flavours or in the name of the bake itself (i .e . not as a garnish , or using 'flour' for the letter F!) You can also republish old posts/recipes but you must include the information for this challenge as stated in these rules.

3. Add the logo to your post and add 'alphabakes' as a label to your post.

4. Email your entries to alphabakes@gmail.com by midnight (GMT) 25th of each month. Please include:

  • Your name (that you want included in the round up or we will use the name of your blog)
  • Your blog post URL
  • Recipe title
  • Photo of recipe (to be included in the round up)

5. You can submit as many entries as you like.

6. You do not have to participate every month to join in.

7. You may submit your entry to other challenges as long as it complies with their rules.

8. If you use twitter, please use the tag #alphabakes and mention @bakingaddict and @Caroline_Makes. We will retweet all those that we see.

9. Have fun! :)

  2. Was just hoping it would be "I" as I have been dying to make some iced buns recently... But as that's not adventurous (and it always feels wrong doing an idea already mentioned in a post) I may just try for 2 bakes this month :)

  3. That sounds even more difficult than e. I had Eccles cakes in mind for last month but just ran out of time - I have no idea about this month's. Will try to think a bit harder ;-)
