Cow Cafe French Fries to go with the Giant Burger birthday cake I made for my boyfriend's birthday
I decided to make some French fry cookies to accompany the cake so found a simple sugar cookie recipe on the internet. You need:
200g butter
200g caster sugar
1 egg
400g plain flour
Beat the butter and sugar together. If this looks runny that's because it is... my butter came straight from the fridge so I warmed it in the microwave to soften it a little, and went too far! But it made no difference luckily.
Beat in the egg then the flour
Roll out the dough. I decided to cut the shapes afterwards the whole sheet was baked, since I wanted straight lines and this way could make sure I had the right shape even if the dough spread. It wasn't something I had tried before, as I would always cut out my shapes before baking the cookies, but it worked really well.
Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes
Cut into strips
Leave to cool
I also wanted to make some sort of carton for the French fries. I had a look on the internet to see if I could find a printable sheet with some sort of pattern but couldn't find anything suitable. Since the main fast food chains have red cartons (with yellow lettering) I just cut out this shape from a piece of red card:
When you stick the edges together you have a basic but relatively effective French fries carton
When the cookies were cool I placed several in each carton. I added a cow sticker as my boyfriend and I have a running cow theme and I decided that since I couldn't (probably for copyright reasons) put a yellow M on the carton, I would do a cow instead. These were from my stash of card making supplies. If you're making this for a party you could add the birthday boy/girl's name to the carton, or a message like 'Happy Father's Day'.
Here are the fries next to the burger cake I made
the chips looked and tasted good.
