Restaurant name: Fox & Goose. Actually a pub rather than a restaurant but it's known locally for its food.
Location: Coombe Bissett, a village near Salisbury, Wiltshire.
Description: Nice country pub complete with roaring fire, good amount of parking and I think there is also an outside play area.
Reason for visit: Mother's Day Sunday lunch - though I've been here several times before with my family
I ate: lamb shank with mint gravy. It was supposed to come with mashed potatoes but I asked if I could have roast instead. For dessert I had a baked lemon cheesecake (see above).
My companion(s) ate: Fishcakes and chips; roast pork, whole sole that I think came with a lemon butter or something similar.
The food was: My lamb was delicious and fell off the bone and my dad's fishcakes were massive (hmm that sounds dodgy). The only complaint was that the roast potatoes were rather burnt on the bottoms and very hard to eat. The cheesecake I had for dessert was really filling. I wasn't sure if the physalis on top was a bit out-dated (I saw it in a lot of restaurants a few years ago) or whether it has come back in again. Then again I don't particularly care about trends in food and will eat whatever looks and tastes good! My family come here a lot because the food is reasonably priced, there is a big menu with a chalkboard of specials as well as the main menu, and we've not had a bad meal here.
The atmosphere/service was: The waitresses and bar staff are always friendly and service was pretty quick given they were very busy.
Price range/value for money: Good value, main courses are between about £8 and £13 including side dishes and desserts I think are £4.50. Drinks are 'normal' pub prices too.
Would I recommend it? Yes, if you are in the area or visiting Salisbury.
